Overview

Therapeutics is the branch of medicine concerned with the treatment of disease and the rational application of interventions to restore, maintain, or improve health. It integrates pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical evidence to select and apply pharmacological agents, biologics, gene and cell therapies, and procedural and supportive measures, together with preventive strategies such as vaccination and lifestyle modification. Modern therapeutics increasingly emphasises mechanism-based and targeted approaches, including immunotherapy, regenerative and stem-cell strategies, gene editing, and nanomedicine, alongside attention to efficacy, safety, dosing, and individual variation in response. The discipline spans the continuum from molecular target identification through preclinical evaluation to clinical use, and is shaped by emerging challenges such as drug resistance and newly recognised diseases. Research published in this area by the journal reflects this breadth, including microRNA-based therapeutic strategies in ischaemic heart disease, cancer immunotherapy and the role of human papillomavirus in carcinogenesis, CRISPR gene therapy in type-2 diabetes, pH-sensitive nanomedicine for gynaecological cancers, regenerative medicine and stem-cell therapies, single-domain antibody generation against pathogenic bacteria, and therapeutic and toxicological challenges arising during the COVID-19 pandemic. These contributions span pharmacological, immunological, genetic, and regenerative approaches to treatment, illustrating how therapeutics applies mechanistic understanding to the management of diverse diseases.
