Overview

Medicine is the science and practice of preventing, diagnosing, treating, and managing disease and of preserving health, integrating basic biomedical sciences with clinical care across the lifespan. As a field it draws on anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology while extending into specialised and emerging domains. The work assembled here reflects that breadth rather than a single subject. Foundational contributions emphasise the basic sciences as the basis of clinical medicine and the place of human anatomy at the entry to medicine and surgery. Clinical and practice-oriented studies address the management of severe paediatric diarrhoea in emergency settings, hypertension in the context of sports and exercise medicine, and practical methods for improving patient compliance in general practice. Methodological perspectives examine research design in general medicine. The field's evolving frontiers appear through regenerative medicine and stem-cell therapies, the nanomedicinal interpretation of traditional preparations, and the application of biotechnology to medicine. Family-medicine and primary-care themes, including the management of heart failure, situate medicine within everyday clinical delivery.
