Overview

Public health is the science and practice of protecting and improving the health of populations and communities, rather than of individuals alone. It focuses on preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting wellbeing through organised efforts such as surveillance, health education, environmental and policy interventions, and the improvement of healthcare access and quality. Public health addresses a broad range of determinants, including infectious and chronic diseases, environmental and social conditions, behaviour, and the organisation of health systems, and it relies on evidence to identify problems, design interventions, and evaluate their impact.
