Overview

Membrane metabolism encompasses the biochemical activities occurring in the cell membrane, including the transport and exchange of nutrients, ions, and other molecules across the membrane. Its importance lies in its ability to regulate the movement of substances between the cell and the external environment, ensuring homeostasis and proper cellular function. Membrane metabolism is essential for a variety of processes, including cell growth, regulation of cell volume, signal transduction, and the maintenance of ion and pH gradients. By understanding membrane metabolism, we gain insight into the way cells respond to changes in their environment and the impact of drugs on their physiology.
