Overview
Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system distinguished histologically by the presence of Reed-Sternberg cells within affected lymph nodes. It typically arises in lymph nodes—often in the neck or chest—and can spread to other lymphoid tissues and organs such as the spleen, liver, and bone marrow. Common features include painless lymph node enlargement, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. Hodgkin lymphoma is distinguished from the larger and more heterogeneous group of non-Hodgkin lymphomas, and it includes subtypes such as nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma. With accurate diagnosis and staging, Hodgkin lymphoma is among the more treatable lymphoid malignancies, managed with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and other modalities, though outcomes and access vary considerably across settings. Research published under this topic addresses diagnosis through fine-needle aspiration cytology of lymphoid lesions, paraneoplastic complications such as the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion in nodular lymphocyte-predominant disease, treatment experience and outcomes in low-income countries including Togo, questions surrounding success in pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma, and related entities across the lymphoma spectrum such as non-Hodgkin lymphomas, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder, and prognostic markers including lactate dehydrogenase, reflecting the diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic breadth of the field.
