Overview

Public health measures are population-level interventions intended to prevent disease, limit transmission, and protect community health, ranging from non-pharmaceutical interventions such as physical distancing, masking, and isolation to vaccination, surveillance, health education, and risk communication. During the COVID-19 pandemic these measures were central to controlling spread and reducing mortality. The International Journal of Coronaviruses publishes peer-reviewed, open-access research on the implementation and impact of such measures. Relevant articles include an analysis of risk of death due to COVID-19, a study of the challenges and factors associated with adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions in a slum setting, work on the social-isolation impacts of the pandemic, and research on mental health in the context of COVID-19. Together these examine how preventive measures are adopted, the barriers to adherence, and their broader population-level effects. Readers interested in non-pharmaceutical interventions, epidemic control, and the social impacts of public health policy will find peer-reviewed, open-access studies relevant to public health measures.
