Overview

Host-pathogen interactions are the biochemical and physiological interactions that occur between a host and a pathogen. They are important to understand how pathogens cause disease in humans, animals, and plants by causing cellular damage, altering gene expression, and/or helping them evade host immune systems. Host-pathogen interactions are used in the areas of infection and immunology research to develop new vaccines and treatment strategies for a variety of diseases, as well as for developing strategies for improving crop yield, animal health, and human health.
