Overview

The human endocrine system is composed of glands throughout the body and is responsible for producing hormones which control many important bodily functions, such as metabolism, growth and development, as well as sexual and reproductive activity. This system ensures that the body is able to respond to internal and external stressors. Imbalances in the endocrine system can result in various disorders, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders and infertility. Proper understanding of this system is thus essential in order to diagnose and treat endocrine-related diseases.
