Overview
Sexual and reproductive health is a state of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being in relation to sexuality and the reproductive system, encompassing the capacity to have safe and satisfying sexual lives and to make informed decisions about reproduction. For women it spans menstruation, contraception, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause, as well as the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and access to appropriate care and rights. It is shaped by biological, social, educational, and structural factors, and equitable access to information and services is a recognized goal of public health. Research in this collection emphasizes knowledge, access, and education across populations. Studies examine barriers to sexual and reproductive healthcare for marginalized groups, reproductive-health knowledge and service utilization among rural adolescents, and preconception care among reproductive-age women. Several contributions focus on adolescent education and parent-adolescent communication about sexual and reproductive health in varied national settings, alongside harm-reduction programs, sexual and reproductive rights, the care of sexual-assault survivors, and the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections. Together these works reflect sexual and reproductive health as a field that joins clinical medicine with public health, education, equity, and human rights.
