Parental Report of Gender Differences in Sexual Functioning among Adolescents with Down Syndrome: A Jordanian Experience
Abstract:
Recently, there has been an increased interest in sexuality among teenagers with Down syndrome (DS). Although DS has been well studied in the western continents, its research is relatively scarce in the Arab region. This is a cross -sectional study to explore the demographic characteristics and the sexual profile among 23 adolescents with DS who attended the outpatient psychiatric clinic of a tertiary care hospital in Amman, Jordan. A semi-structured interview conducted with the parents of individuals with DS was used to record the socio-demographic profile, self-care skills, socio-sexual skills and sexual behavior. Sonographic B-lines, also known as lung comets, have been shown to correlate with the presence of extravascular lung water. The aim of this study is to assess if chest ultrasound could detect lung water imbibition and its variations induced by dialysis, an experimental model of controlled rapid fluid loss. A cross-sectional study was conducted in a hemodialysis center in the city of Fez. Lung ultrasounds, impedance measurement, and ultrasound of the inferior vena cava were achieved 30-60 minutes before and after the hemodialysis session. Data from intervention studies demonstrated the beneficial effects of periodontal therapy in reducing vascular diseases. We aimed to investigate homocysteine levels and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) in Parkinson’s Disease (PD), to determine relationship of these parameters and as well as to determine whether CIMT in patients with PD was associated to age, disease duration, age of disease onset, stage, the Unified Parkinson Disease rating scale (UPDRS), the drugs used in therapy.
The study population consisted of 55 PD patients (37 male) and 25 healty subjects. The severity of neurological impairment was assessed with UPDRS and the Hoehn-Yahr scale. CIMT and homocysteine levels were measured. Anti-parkinsonian treatments were recorded and the total daily dose of levodopa was calculated for each patient.

Optic nerve head drusen are acellular hyaline deposits located anterior to the lamina cribrosa, frequently associated with visual field defects. Sometimes rapid worsening of vision may occur due to complications such as acute vascular events, choroidal neovascularization, or serous maculopathy. Although there are no proven treatments for Optic nerve head drusen associated field loss, we present the case of a patient with Optic nerve head drusen and bilateral rapid progression of visual field loss that has stabilized on intraocular pressure lowering medication. Statins are highly effective medications for reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations and cardiovascular events. Their most common side effects are a variety of myopathic complaints, possibly due to reduced circulating Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) levels. We sought to determine whether CoQ10 supplementation decreases the rate of myalgia in patients with statin-related myalgia. Patients treated with a statin for clinical indications who reported statin induced myalgia were eligible. Patients were randomized to treatment with CoQ10 120 mg/day (17 patients) or placebo (20 patients) in a double-blind manner. Treatment was continued for 12 weeks. The Chromosomal and Functional Clustering of Markedly Divergent Human-Mouse Orthologs Run Parallel to their Compositional Features

It was, previously, reported that the specific pattern of the compositional features of particular human-mouse orthologs defining in human two clusters, named C2 and C5, are present in different clusters in mouse. Since, thus, these orthologs can harbor a significant number of nucleotide differences a large sample of human-mouse orthologs having in human the C2 and C5 compositional features were collected in order to identify the orthologs that have been conserved or diverged during speciation. From the collection, 945 and 1051 orthologs had in human the C2 and C5 profile, respectively, while in mouse only 77 and 125, respectively, had these profiles.
