Learning and Memory in an Animal Model of Longevity: The Ames Dwarf Mice
Abstract:
The Ames dwarf mice have a recessive mutation of the PROP-1 gene that produces hereditary dwarfism. The abnormality is responsible for an anterior-pituitary deficiency that results in a substantial reduction of growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, and prolactin. These mice are smaller in size than their normal siblings but live approximately twice as long. The normal siblings do not have the mutation, and therefore still have the typical levels of the three hormones. The purpose of the present research was to determine if the reduced hormones in the Ames dwarf mice affected their ability to learn and delayed the age-related loss of memory. In general, the hypotheses proposed indicate that there will be no significant differences on the tasks in regards to the genotype or the age of the mice. The Impact of Public Financing, Economic Growth, and Corruption on Immunization Performance: Evidence from 37 Sub-Saharan African Countries
Abstract:
In sub-Saharan Africa, where many countries continue to experience high burdens of vaccine-preventable diseases, increasing immunization access have been a priority for the governments and international organizations such as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Over 40 Gavi-supported African countries have been impacted, with 364 million children reached and over US$5.7 billion disbursed, averting over 8.9 million child deaths. Despite this progress, the African region has struggled with immunization coverage due to various factors. Nevertheless, some African countries are transitioning out of Gavi support due to economic growth. However, many require strong political will to increase their expenditure on immunization. This study therefore aims to understand the factors influencing immunization performance and its relationship to public expenditure.

The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of international collaboration to save lives and improve health at national and global levels. However, significant challenges face those engaged in international collaborations such as language barriers, cultural differences, different rules and regulations, and limited resources. This paper discusses the use of cultural humility theory to support an international collaboration between stakeholders from different countries with diverse cultural backgrounds working together to optimize a novel middle and high school curriculum intended to promote peaceful coexistence in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential: A Reinterpretation of its Electrogenesis
Abstract:
Depending upon the species, the brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) consists of four or five major high frequency components. According to longstanding doctrine, each wave represents the sequential activation of successively higher nuclei and tracts from the 8th (auditory) nerve to the midbrain (inferior colliculus). Although this conceptual framework has acquired the status of near dogma, surprisingly little evidence exists in support. In the present analysis, a new interpretation of the electrogenesis of the BAEP is proposed which is simpler although it retains skeletal elements of the older explanation. The revised model is mostly derived from two distinct sources.
