Host Pathogen Interactions

Host-pathogen interactions refer to the relationship between a pathogen (a microorganism that causes disease) and its host (an organism that harbors the pathogen). These interactions are important to understand and study, as they are the basis of diseases and can lead to the development of new treatments and therapies. Host-pathogen interactions involve the recognition of one another, the exchange of molecules and metabolites, the evasion of the host’s immune system, and the manipulation of the host’s cells. By further understanding how a pathogen interacts and survives within a host, researchers can gain insight into how to effectively treat diseases caused by the pathogen and develop new therapies to target the pathogen. Additionally, studying host-pathogen interactions can provide insight into the underlying biological mechanisms behind diseases, such as cancer and autoimmune disorders.
