Membrane Biology

Membrane biology is the study of the structure and function of cellular membranes. It is a multidisciplinary subject, utilizing knowledge from fields such as cell biology, biochemistry, and physics. Cellular membranes are composed of lipids and proteins that form a barrier between the cell’s internal and external environments, controlling the flow of nutrients, ions, and signals in and out of the cell. The study of membrane biology is important as it helps to improve our understanding of how cells and organisms interact with their environment and how cellular processes, such as metabolism and signal transduction, are regulated. Furthermore, it plays a vital role in the development of novel treatments for diseases and the development of biotechnological applications.
