Biography
Wilfred Otang Mbeng is affiliated with the University of Mpumalanga, South Africa, where his research focuses on ethnobotany, medicinal plants, and traditional medicine practices. His work has examined the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of indigenous plant species, the ethnopharmacology of plants used for skin disorders among Xhosa communities in the Eastern Cape, and the prevalence of plants causing allergic and irritant contact dermatitis. He has published extensively on the therapeutic applications of medicinal plants in South Africa, with particular attention to their phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology. His most-cited publication, "Perceptions of ethnoveterinary medicine among animal healthcare practitioners in South Africa" (2024), reflects his expanding research interests in traditional veterinary practices.
