Alcohol Dependence

Alcohol dependence is a serious and life-threatening disorder that involves an individual’s physical and psychological dependence on alcohol. Those with alcohol dependence find it difficult to stop drinking and have a strong urge to consume alcohol even after it has caused negative consequences. Alcohol dependence is often accompanied by withdrawal symptoms when drinking stops, such as anxiety, insomnia, nausea, and shakiness. As such, it is essential to seek professional help to properly address and manage alcohol dependence. Treatment options include medication, psychotherapy, or lifestyle changes, such as setting and achieving goals, finding new activities, and avoiding triggers for alcohol use.
