The Chromosomes of Dictyostelium Giganteum
Abstract:
As a first step towards clarifying the basis of the cooperation and conflict seen in chimeric binary mixes of Dictyostelium giganteum, we examined the karyotype of six natural isolates. All six had 5 haploid chromosomes. No meiotic figures were seen. Fluorescence in-situ hybridization was carried out using conserved D. discoideum centromeric DNA sequences as probes. From it, we infer that two chromosomes are sub-metacentric, one is metacentric and two are telocentric.

Abstract:
Frailty is an ageing-associated state linked to poor prognostic outcomes. Chronic inflammation due to HIV-infection, AIDS-related infections. and the adverse effects of antiretroviral therapy (ART) all contribute to frailty in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA). Frailty has been comprehensively studied in populations comprising predominantly of Caucasian PLHA. However, there remains a dearth of such data in Indian populations, especially in younger PLHA. This cross-sectional study aimed to estimate the prevalence of frailty in PLHA (18 - 50 years) who had been on ART for 24-60 months and identify markers linked to frailty. Dietary intake of inorganic phosphates is linked to various adverse health effects. Excessive intake of highly soluble inorganic phosphates, which are used as feed and food additives, have been found to impair parameters of kidney health. As chronic kidney disease represents one of the most frequently occurring terminal diseases especially in cats, extensive knowledge regarding the safety of these additives is important. Other minerals, such as calcium, can modulate their effects on the phosphate homeostasis and kidney health. Therefore, it is crucial to examine further factors, such as the dietary cation-anion balance (CAB), resulting from the concentrations of major minerals in a diet. Acute Hypomagnesemia-Induced Cerebellar Down-Beat Nystagmus Syndrome Due to Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo: A Case Report
Abstract:
Magnesium is essential for the proper functioning of all human cells and is involved in the regulation of neurotransmitter function and neurological function. Acute and chronic hypomagnesemia cause severe neurological symptoms such as neuromuscular irritability, myoclonus, stridor, dysphagia, mainly postural tremor and movement disorders along with vertical downbeat nystagmus. Here we report a case of cerebellar downbeat nystagmus syndrome induced by acute hypomagnesemia (HICS) due to very frequent vomiting in a 75-year-old woman with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). The clinical condition improved with daily intravenous and then oral magnesium supplementation. To our knowledge, this is the first described case of HICS induced by acute hypomagnesemia due to vomiting triggered by a benign peripheral pathology such as BPPV which was then successfully treated once the central syndrome was resolved.
Effects of a Novelty Virtual Interactive Brain Atlas on Student Perception of Neuroanatomy

The instructional techniques in neuroanatomy laboratories continue to evolve to incorporate online interactive resources to improve student experience and outcomes. This study aims to design an “all in one”Virtual Interactive Brain Atlas (VIBA) that provides students with an educational resource that will improve their knowledge of neuroanatomy while in the brain lab and provide them with lab resources they can self-study and self-test. Coronal, midsagittal, whole brain, and horizontal brain slices were used to create detailed descriptions, interactive features, and quiz assessments to create VIBA. Upper level undergraduate and optometry students taking a neuroanatomy one-semester course were provided with VIBA for use during the semester. Dragonhead Cyclone in The Falkland Islands (Malvines Islands) has Double Cote's Spiral Like NGC 5247
Abstract:
Extratropical cyclones are common in the South Atlantic. They generally arise with the passage of cold fronts to the south of the South American continent, crossing the south of Chile and Argentina, in the regions of Puerto Natales, Punta Arenas (Chile), Rio Galegos, Rio Grande, El Calafate and Ushuaia (Argentina). The extratropical cyclone analyzed presented at its peak the very characteristic shape of a Chinese dragon. Other cyclones in the form of a Cote's spiral curve are part of this analysis (Gobato et al., 2018-2023). They present a mathematical form of a double Cotes Spiral curve. Here called the Dragonhead cyclone, indicate a structural similarity with spiral galaxies, especially NGC 5247, in the constellation Virgo. Parents and Siblings as Role Models in Dealing With Digital Screen Media. Findings from A Media Fasting Intervention

Parents' and siblings’ role model motivation and function could play an important role in positively influencing both their own media behavior and that of family members. To investigate whether parents and siblings consciously take on this role model function, their intentions were being evaluated with a standardized questionnaire before a 6-week media fasting intervention. 135 pairs of parents and 178 pairs of children were included. A major component of the parents' media fasting intention to media fast was to be a role model for their children. This was particularly related to the idea that media fasting has something cleansing about it, as well as the hope of becoming more attentive and calm as a family. These parents seem to want to strengthen family cohesion and climate and protect their children from excessive media consumption.
