Two Cases of Large Right Atrial Thrombus with Different Outcomes
Abstract:
Right atrial thrombi are a remarkable phenomenon especially when witnessed live on the monitor during echocardiographic study. They represent a clot en passant caught in the middle of travel to final destination in the pulmonary vasculature. In this paper we present two cases that show us the ambivalent nature of these clots, the challenges faced during their management and the possible outcome for the patient. The first case with fatal outcome is narrated in present tense because the outcome is fatal and the second is narrated in past tense because the patient survived and the clot became a past incidental encounter
Addressing the gastrointestinal health associated with schizophrenia: The argument for a new nutrition-based intervention
Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to review the literature linking schizophrenia with chronic inflammation and gluten sensitivity. In addition, the paper discusses the need for dietary interventions that may improve multiple health outcomes for patients. Individuals with schizophrenia are at much greater risk for the development of additional autoimmune disorders. Second generation anti-psychotic medications are the most effective treatment for schizophrenia, but there are numerous potential side effects to the medications. More specifically, individuals with schizophrenia who are treated with SGAs are at increased risk for obesity, diabetes, as well as elevated lipids and blood pressure. An effective evidence-based dietary intervention has the potential to improve numerous outcomes for individuals with schizophrenia.
Anterior Open Bite Closure Using Ortodontic Mini-Implants
Abstract:
This case report describes the treatment of a dento-alveolar protrusion with anterior open bite. The 21-year old patient had a convex profile , class I dental malocclusion , anterior open bite of 4 mm and presented tongue thrust. The treatment plan was to insert two mini-implants for premolar intrusion along with the straight –wire fixed appliances. Tongue therapy was performed by myofunctional exercises. Using the absolute anchorage we were able to achieve our goals in a predictable manner without the use of orthognathic surgery or patient compliance . After the tongue thrust habit was removed we are confident that this is a stable result .

Abstract:
Ageing whilst an inevitable process in the human being, does not have to be marked by progressive decline and social withdrawal. `Ageism’ can generate a number of negative and at times destructive perspectives, labelling the elderly and possibly encouraging them to reflect the attitudes and behaviour of the label. This discussion paper addresses concerns about the `demographic time-bomb’ in some advanced economies from a sociological and policy perspective; exploring briefly functional, critical and social action theory. The paper concludes by suggesting that social perspective significantly translate to social behaviour and interaction with and by the elderly. Many of the ageist preconceptions are not necessarily supported by research, and that advancing age should be marked by empowerment, participation, choice and more effective social integration or reintegration. Adenosquamous carcinoma of the stomach (ASCS) is extremely rare with less than one hundred cases published in the world literature. It is defined by combined adenocarcima and squamous cells carcinoma of the stomach. ASCS is clinically aggressive and has a poor prognosis, even when discovered at an early stage. This intriguing entity is characterized by non specific symptoms or radiological signs. Integrate 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography 18F FDG.PET/CT is useful morphologic and functional modalities for evaluating primary tumor, local extend and invasion beyond gastric wall or distant metastatic and eventually for management. Gastric cancer (GC) ranks as the fourth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Epstein-Barr virus is a well-known oncogenic virus, it is responsible for 10% of gastric carcinomas across the world. The aim of study was to determine the prevalence of EBV associated with GC in Sudanese patients. Mediating Effect of Depressive Symptoms in the Relationship Between Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Health Conservation in Community-Dwelling Vulnerable Diabetic Elderly People
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediation of depressive symptoms in the relationship between cardiovascular risk and the health conservation of community-dwelling vulnerable diabetic elderly in order to provide a basis for planning nursing interventions to improve the health conservation of vulnerable diabetic elderly. The participants were 99 vulnerable diabetic elderly who registered at the community health centers in D city. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed with the SPSS-WIN 19.0 program. The instruments were Sung’s Health Conservation Scale, the Arizona Heart Institute Cardiovascular Risk Factor Questionnaire, and the Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form-Korea version (GDSSF-K).

While Diabetes Mellitus (DM) affects cognitive functions and the Long Term Memory (LTM), several different strategies are designed to control harmful consequences of DM. This study is investigating whether having Mind Activity (MA) can make any difference in LTM function of individuals with DM.
