JAA Open-access publication charges

Article Processing Charges

JAA charges an article processing charge only after a manuscript has been accepted. Submission and peer review do not carry a fee.

Editorial independence

Payment status is not considered during editorial assessment or peer review and does not influence an editorial decision.

Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Current rates

The charge is determined by the accepted article type. The following four fee categories apply; rates for other accepted formats are confirmed before submission.

Standard article processing charges in USD
Article typeAPCWhen charged
Original ResearchUSD 1,200After acceptance
Review ArticlesUSD 1,300After acceptance
Methods and ToolsUSD 1,100After acceptance
Short CommunicationsUSD 900After acceptance

JAA also considers protocols, data and technical notes, case reports and scholarly discussion. Do not assume that an unlisted format is free or that it inherits a listed rate; obtain a rate clarification from the editorial office before submission.

A rejected manuscript does not incur an APC. Editorial decisions are made before invoicing and remain independent of a person's ability or arrangement to pay.

What the APC covers

  • Editorial administration and peer-review coordination.
  • Copyediting, layout and publication production.
  • DOI registration and metadata preparation.
  • Open-access hosting and publication-platform maintenance.

The published article is made openly available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), and authors retain copyright.

Billing and payment

AcceptanceThe editorial decision is completed before an APC invoice is issued.
InvoiceThe invoice is sent to the corresponding author or the identified institutional billing contact.
PaymentPayment details and the amount due appear on the invoice.
ProductionProduction proceeds following payment confirmation, including proofs and DOI registration.

Payment details and the amount due appear on the invoice. Contact the editorial office before payment if an invoiced amount requires clarification.

Withdrawal policy

Authors should contact the editorial office promptly and wait for written confirmation before submitting the work elsewhere.

  • Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge.
  • Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal's APC.
  • Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.

Partial waivers

The current policy states that authors from countries classified by the World Bank as low income or lower middle income may request a partial APC waiver. Requests are considered case by case and should be made before acceptance.

A waiver request does not affect peer review or the editorial decision. For eligibility or invoice questions, contact [email protected].
