How to read this page
Four different things are often listed together under one heading. They are not the same, and this page keeps them apart.
A journal identifier says a title exists and is registered. A DOI registration service gives each article a permanent identifier and resolves it. A discovery service collects metadata so a reader can find the work. Selective journal-level indexing means a database has evaluated the journal against its own criteria and admitted it. A preservation archive supports long-term access to deposited content.
Each entry below states which of those it is, what it means in practice, and where the status can be checked independently. Registered identifiers, DOI metadata and discovery services are listed below.
Identifier and registration
What identifies the journal and its articles.
- Journal identifier
- ISSN 2574-450X (electronic), registered with the ISSN International Centre. An ISSN identifies a serial title; it is a registration, not an evaluation.
- Record in the ISSN Portal
- DOI registration
- Articles are deposited with Crossref under the publisher prefix 10.14302. Each deposited article receives a permanent Digital Object Identifier that resolves to the article, and its metadata — title, authors, date, volume, issue, pages — becomes available to every service that harvests Crossref.
- DOI registration is an identifier and metadata service. It is not indexing, and this page does not present it as such.

- Every article page carries the standard bibliographic metadata tags — title, authors, affiliations, journal, ISSN, volume, issue, pages, publication date, DOI, keywords and a direct link to the PDF — which is the form scholarly search services read.
Discovery services
Services that collect and surface the journal’s metadata. They index content; they do not evaluate journals for admission.

- The journal is a registered source in OpenAlex, the open scholarly index maintained by OurResearch, where its articles, authors and citation links are openly available.

- Every article is open access from publication under CC BY 4.0 with no subscription and no reader charge, so any harvester, aggregator or search service is free to collect the full text as well as the metadata.

Selective journal-level indexing
Databases that evaluate a journal against published criteria before admitting it.
This is the category that carries the most weight with authors and librarians, and it is the one this page states most carefully. A journal is included in a selective database only after that database has assessed it, and inclusion can be confirmed independently in each database’s own public list of titles.
The journal’s selective indexing applications are handled by the publisher. Authors and librarians who need the current position for a specific database should write to the editorial office, which will answer with the status and the date it was last checked.

Funder deposit
A route for individual manuscripts, not a journal-level status.
- NIH-funded manuscripts
- Eligible NIH-funded manuscripts may be deposited individually in PubMed Central through the NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS).
- Deposit of an individual manuscript does not establish journal-level indexing in PubMed, MEDLINE or PubMed Central.
Digital preservation
What happens to the published record over the long term.
This journal’s content is committed to Portico, a not-for-profit digital-preservation archive run by ITHAKA (the organization behind JSTOR). As articles are deposited they enter Portico’s permanent archive, so the scholarly record stays available for the long term — even if a title one day ceases to publish.
What the journal has published
The record itself is the most direct evidence of what is discoverable.
Every published article, its authors, its publication date and its identifier are listed in the archive and can be checked one by one. That record — not a list of service names — is what a reader or a database will actually find.
