JAA Editorial standards
The Journal of Antioxidant Activity evaluates manuscripts for scope, methodological rigor, ethical compliance and reporting quality. Editorial decisions remain independent of fees, services and journal roles.
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening for a substantive antioxidant, oxidative-stress or redox question, reporting appropriate to the study design, and ethical compliance. Chemical, computational, biological, nutritional, pharmacological, clinical and population research, evidence synthesis and protocols are assessed within that remit. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. For double-blind review, authors provide an anonymized manuscript and identifying information separately. Reviewers assess methodological validity, data transparency and whether each conclusion is supported by the evidence reported.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Editors do not handle manuscripts in which they have a competing interest.
Submissions involving human or animal data must report the applicable ethics approval. Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript.
Submissions are screened for plagiarism as part of the journal's integrity checks.
Report methods and limitations appropriate to the design: assays and controls for laboratory work; models, validation and uncertainty for computational work; participants, outcomes and bias assessment for human research; evidence selection for reviews; and planned methodology and analysis for protocols. Assay results or predictions alone are not clinical or therapeutic evidence.
Authors must disclose funding sources and competing interests. Editors are responsible for managing declared conflicts during editorial assessment.
Every listed author must meet the journal's authorship criteria and approve the final manuscript. A contribution statement should identify each author's role.
Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement. Provide relevant measurements, model inputs, analysis code or synthesis materials where possible, while respecting ethical and legal restrictions.
Preprints are permitted when the prior posting is disclosed in the submission cover letter.
The journal's existing policy permits AI tools for language support. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy of all submitted content and must disclose such use.
When an error is identified after publication, the editorial office assesses its effect on the article and the scholarly record. A correction may be issued following editorial review and author consultation. Expressions of concern or retractions may be used when required to protect the record.
