Manuscript Types We Publish
The International Journal of Infection Prevention welcomes diverse epidemiological research that advances our understanding of disease prevention, surveillance, and population health. Our expert reviewers specialize in evaluating methodology rigor, statistical approaches, and public health implications.
Population-Based Studies
Cohort studies, cross-sectional surveys, and case-control studies examining disease patterns, risk factors, and health outcomes in defined populations.
Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses
Comprehensive evidence synthesis following PRISMA guidelines, quantitative meta-analyses, and methodological reviews of epidemiological approaches.
Outbreak Investigations
Field epidemiology reports, outbreak response analyses, contact tracing studies, and rapid assessments of emerging infectious disease threats.
Surveillance & Monitoring
Disease surveillance system evaluations, syndromic surveillance reports, sentinel monitoring studies, and epidemiological trend analyses.
Methodology & Statistical Approaches
Novel epidemiological methods, statistical modeling techniques, study design innovations, and validation studies of measurement tools.
Health Policy & Systems Research
Policy evaluations, health systems analyses, implementation science studies, and research examining social determinants of health.
Short Communications
Preliminary findings, pilot studies, novel observations, and timely reports of significant epidemiological findings requiring rapid dissemination.
Commentaries & Perspectives
Expert opinions on current epidemiological issues, methodological debates, policy implications, and future directions in infection prevention research.
Reporting Guidelines: We strongly encourage authors to follow discipline-specific reporting standards including STROBE (observational studies), CONSORT (randomized trials), PRISMA (systematic reviews), STARD (diagnostic accuracy), and ARRIVE (animal studies). Adherence to these guidelines expedites peer review and increases acceptance likelihood.
Pre-Submission Checklist
Ensure your manuscript is complete and properly formatted before submission. Following this checklist reduces processing time and helps reviewers focus on your research quality rather than formatting issues.
Manuscript File: Word (.docx) or LaTeX format, double-spaced, with line numbers for reviewer reference

Abstract: Structured abstract (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions) not exceeding 300 words
Keywords: 4-6 relevant keywords using MeSH terms where applicable for optimal indexing
Figures & Tables: High-resolution figures (300 DPI minimum, TIFF or EPS format) with descriptive captions
References: Complete citations in Vancouver or AMA style, verified for accuracy
Ethics Approval: IRB/ethics committee approval documentation and informed consent statements
Data Availability: Statement on data sharing, repository links, or access conditions
Competing Interests: Declaration of all financial and non-financial competing interests
Author Contributions: Clear statement of each author's role using CRediT taxonomy
Funding Information: Complete funding sources with grant numbers and sponsor acknowledgments
Cover Letter: Letter to editor highlighting novelty, significance, and why your work fits our journal's scope
Peer Review Timeline
We are committed to transparent, efficient peer review. Our editorial team works with expert epidemiologists and public health researchers to provide constructive feedback that strengthens your manuscript.
What happens during peer review? Your manuscript is evaluated by 2-3 independent experts in epidemiology and infection prevention. Reviewers assess methodological rigor, statistical validity, interpretation of findings, and contribution to the field. You'll receive detailed, constructive feedback regardless of the decision outcome. Our editors facilitate dialogue between authors and reviewers to ensure fair, thorough evaluation.

Submission Guidelines Summary
Manuscript Preparation
Structure your epidemiology manuscript with clear sections: Introduction (research question and context), Methods (study design, population, data collection, statistical analysis), Results (descriptive statistics, main findings, subgroup analyses), Discussion (interpretation, limitations, public health implications), and Conclusions. Include detailed methodology to allow replication and critical appraisal.
Statistical Reporting
Report effect sizes with 95% confidence intervals, not just p-values. Specify all statistical tests used, software packages and versions, handling of missing data, and adjustments for multiple comparisons. For complex analyses (multilevel models, survival analysis, propensity scores), provide sufficient detail for reproducibility.
Ethical Considerations
All human subjects research must have IRB/ethics committee approval. Include approval number, date, and institution in the manuscript. For secondary data analysis, specify data use agreements. Animal studies require IACUC approval and adherence to ARRIVE guidelines. Clearly describe informed consent procedures and data protection measures.
Data Sharing
We encourage data deposition in recognized repositories (e.g., Dryad, Figshare, institutional repositories). If data cannot be shared due to privacy concerns, provide detailed description of access procedures. Code for statistical analyses should be made available when possible to enhance reproducibility.
Conflicts of Interest
Declare all financial relationships with entities that could influence the research or its interpretation. This includes funding sources, employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, patents, and expert testimony. Non-financial conflicts (personal relationships, academic competition) should also be disclosed.
