Submit early, publish sooner

Submissions are open year-round and enter peer review as soon as they arrive. Frequently asked questions

Is there a submission deadline?
General submissions are open year-round, so you can submit whenever your work is ready. Because we publish on a rolling basis, an earlier submission appears in an earlier issue — there is a real advantage to submitting sooner. Themed special-issue calls, when running, have their own firm deadlines (shown above).
What topics are you calling for?
Applied and clinical human nutrition across four domains: clinical and applied nutrition (diet and diabetes, nutrition support, dietetics, weight management); public-health and community nutrition (dietary diversity, micronutrient status, maternal and child nutrition); food, functional and nutraceutical science (functional foods, plant bioactives, supplements); and behavioural, lifestyle and metabolic nutrition (eating behaviour, sports nutrition, postprandial and metabolic studies). See the full aims & scope.
Who can submit?
Any author with original, ethically conducted human-nutrition research — clinicians, dietitians, public-health researchers, food and nutraceutical scientists, and academic teams worldwide. There is no requirement to be invited.
Is there a submission fee?
No. There is no charge to submit or to be peer-reviewed. An article processing charge applies only if your manuscript is accepted: US $3,600 for original research and US $3,000 for reviews and short communications.
How fast is the first decision?
Approximately three weeks from submission. You will receive an acknowledgement within 72 hours, after which your manuscript enters single-blind peer review (double-blind on request).
Do you publish special issues?
Yes — alongside regular rolling issues, IJN runs guest-edited special issues and focused themed calls when there is a strong topic and an appointed guest editor. Any open call is featured above with its deadline. None is open at the moment, but you are welcome to propose one, or submit to the current volume any time.
Is the work open access, and who keeps copyright?
Yes. Every accepted article is published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) licence, authors retain copyright, and each article receives a permanent Crossref DOI discoverable via Google Scholar and OpenAlex.
