Instructions for Authors

Journal of New Developments in Chemistry welcomes high-quality chemistry research and provides clear guidance to support rigorous, transparent reporting.

Types of Publications

Journal of New Developments in Chemistry supports publication of original research papers, reviews, letters, editorials, case reports, case images, clinical trials, rapid communication, commentaries, thesis, literature reviews, opinions, mini reviews, book reviews, perspectives, conference proceedings, and short communications.

Submission Process

Submit your manuscript through Manuscript Zone. The system will guide you through file uploads and required declarations.

Provide a cover letter (max 500 words) in the designated Cover Letter field during submission. Do not upload a separate cover letter file.

For technical assistance with submission, contact [email protected].

Authorship, Originality, and Responsibility
  • All listed authors must meet authorship criteria and approve the final submission.
  • Manuscripts must be original and not under review elsewhere.
  • Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors require written agreement from all authors.
  • Authors are responsible for the accuracy of data, analysis, and citations.
ORCID

An ORCID iD is required for the corresponding author and is encouraged for all co-authors. Use your ORCID in the submission system.

Manuscript Organization and Key Limits

Title and Running Title

  • Title: up to 30 words, no abbreviations
  • Running title: up to 60 characters including spaces

Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract: 250 words maximum, no subheadings
  • Keywords: 5 to 12 words or phrases

Introduction and Discussion

  • Introduction: 500 words maximum
  • Discussion: 1,500 words maximum
Requests for length exceptions: The limits above are intended to support clarity and an efficient peer-review process. If your manuscript exceeds these limits and reducing it would compromise the scientific meaning or completeness of the work, please contact the Editorial Office at [email protected] prior to submission to request guidance on a suitable exception.
Manuscript Preparation

File Format

  • Preferred: Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX
  • 12 pt font, double-spaced, with page numbers
  • Use standard margins and continuous line numbering

Title Page

  • Full author names and affiliations
  • Corresponding author email and ORCID iD
  • Running title and total word count

Abstract and Keywords

  • Concise abstract with objectives and key findings
  • 4 to 6 keywords aligned with chemistry terms
  • Avoid citations in the abstract

Main Text

  • Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion
  • Clear headings and subheadings
  • Define abbreviations at first use

Ensure experimental procedures are detailed enough for replication. For synthesis studies, include stepwise procedures, purification steps, and characterization methods. For analytical or physical chemistry studies, describe measurement conditions, calibration standards, and data processing steps.

Section by Section Checklist
  • Contact information: Provide full author names, affiliations, and a clearly identified corresponding author.
  • Experimental procedure / Methods: Describe materials, instrumentation, and procedures so work is reproducible.
  • Results: Present findings clearly with appropriate statistics and uncertainty where relevant.
  • Discussion and Conclusion: Interpret results in context and clarify scientific or practical implications.
  • Acknowledgments: Identify funding sources and non-author contributions.
  • Conflict of interest: Disclose financial or non-financial relationships.
Chemistry Specific Reporting
  • Provide full reagent details, purity, and suppliers when relevant.
  • Report yields, conditions, and characterization data for synthesized compounds.
  • Include spectral and analytical data (NMR, MS, IR, elemental analysis) as appropriate.
  • Describe instrumentation settings and calibration procedures.
  • Use SI units and standard chemical nomenclature.

For computational chemistry, specify software versions, basis sets, functionals, and convergence criteria. Provide Cartesian coordinates or input files when possible to enable reproduction.

Language and Style

Write in clear, professional English suitable for an international chemistry audience. Avoid ambiguous terms for compounds, conditions, or analytical results. Use IUPAC names where appropriate and include common names when they improve clarity. Provide explicit concentration units and temperature or pressure conditions.

Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Data
  • Figures should be high resolution and labeled clearly.
  • Tables must be editable and include descriptive titles.
  • Do not duplicate data across text, tables, and figures.
  • Supplementary files may include spectra, data tables, or code.
References

References are cited by number in the order of appearance. List the first five authors, then add "et al" if additional authors are present. Authors are responsible for accuracy.

Ethics, Safety, and Misconduct
  • Research involving human participants or animals must include ethics approval and consent details.
  • Follow laboratory safety standards and report hazards for chemicals or procedures.
  • Plagiarism, fabrication, and falsification are handled according to COPE guidance.

Authors should describe safe handling and disposal practices for hazardous reagents and wastes. If the work involves regulated substances or controlled materials, include compliance statements where applicable.

All submissions are screened for originality using iThenticate or equivalent tools.

Statements and Declarations

Include a single section titled "Statements and Declarations" with the following, where applicable:

  • Funding
  • Conflicts of Interest
  • Ethical approval and consent to participate
  • Data availability statement
  • Author contributions
Data Availability

All submissions must include a Data Availability Statement. Refer to the Data Archiving and Permissions page for repository guidance and required wording.

If data are restricted, explain the limitation and how access may be requested.

Reporting Checklists

Where relevant, authors must follow reporting checklists from the EQUATOR Network and include the completed checklist with the submission.

Preprints

Preprints are allowed. Disclose any preprint versions at submission and update the preprint record with the published DOI after publication.

Use of AI Tools
  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
  • AI may be used for language assistance, but substantive use must be disclosed in a dedicated statement.
  • Authors remain fully responsible for all content, including AI assisted text and images.
Open Access and Charges

There are no submission fees. Article Processing Charges apply only after acceptance. See the APC page for details.

After Acceptance

Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting and production. Authors review proofs for accuracy before publication. Final articles receive a DOI and are made available open access.
